Sunday, June 24th, the Rivier Prayer group held a “Thanksgiving” banquet to celebrate its 40th anniversary. What a wonderful event it was, as former and current members gathered to renew old friendships, and celebrate 40 yrs. of God’s blessings. At the front of the “Heritage Room” at Alpine Grove Banquet Facility, hung the prayer group’s large banner, surrounded by several poster boards of photos, some from past times, which brought back wonderful memories, A former member, Father Kenneth Soroko of the Fathers of Mercy, gave a beautiful blessing, as the meal was about to be served.
Among the former members who were recognized during the program, were Pearley & Jane Deneault who led the prayer group during the 80’s, and others who traveled a great distance to be there. Also recognized for 65 years of religious life, Sr. Theresa Lawrence, PM, one of the founding members who is still active in the group, spoke about the prophetic beginning of the prayer group. Sr. Theresa was presented with a bouquet of pink roses, and a monetary gift of Masses for her intentions. Following a brief congratulatory word from Jackie Morganti, the very enthusiastic Diocesan Liaison to the Charismatic Renewal, the guest speaker, Fr. Marc Montminy, Pastor of St. Michael Parish in Exeter, and former member of the prayer group, delivered a very encouraging talk on the Renewal, now generally perceived to be at the heart of the Church.
Following the program, everyone enjoyed taking part in a “sing-along” of praise songs from former days, which was followed by a raffle of religious items, to the delight of several winners. All in all, it was a most appropriate and enjoyable way to give glory to God for forty years of blessings.
